London Road Charges & EV Exemptions (2026)

London operates several daily road charging schemes. The Congestion Charge applies Monday to Friday 7am–6pm and Saturday to Sunday 12pm–6pm within Central London at £18 per day. Crucially, the electric car congestion charge rules have changed: EVs are no longer 100% exempt. They now qualify for a 25% discount (£13.50/day) but only if registered via Auto Pay.

Both Blackwall Tunnel and Silvertown Tunnel now operate the same congestion-based tolling: £1.50 off-peak and £4.00 during peak hours (06:00–22:00). The Dartford Crossing charges cars £3.50 between 06:00 and 22:00 daily via Dart Charge.

ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) covers the whole of Greater London, charging £12.50 per day for non-compliant petrol cars (pre-Euro 4) and diesel cars (pre-Euro 6). Compliant and electric vehicles pay nothing for ULEZ.

London's traffic landscape varies dramatically. Monitor inner hubs like Westminster and Camden for Congestion Charge boundaries, check transit corridors in Tower Hamlets and Greenwich for Blackwall Tunnel flows, or stay ahead of delays on arterial routes in outer boroughs like Barnet and Croydon.
